Shout It From the Mountaintops

"Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good news,
         Who announces peace!" Nahum 1:15a

When I look to the mountains around me this scripture comes to mind. Jesus Christ brought the good news of the gospel to the world. The gospel of salvation. Through Christ we have peace with God the Father. How lovely are the feet of the one who brings this good news to those who haven't heard.

He Gives the Rain

"He gives rain on the earth
And sends water on the fields," Job 5:10

The wildflowers are absolutely dependent upon the Lord for water. Without rain they wouldn't thrive and we wouldn't have the joy of beholding their beauty. Only God can send life-giving rain to the fields. Praise the Lord for His gracious provision.

Never To Thirst Again

"Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" John 7:37-38

All of us are thirsty spiritually and we all fill that spiritual thirst with something. But only the living water that Jesus offers can satisfy the soul. When we accept His invitation to come, believe in Him and drink, we never again have a spiritual thirst. He quenches it for all of eternity.

No More Walls

"For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall," Ephesians 2:14

Once a wall existed between God and mankind. A wall also existed between Jew and Gentile. Christ came to fulfill the letter of the law -- the dividing wall -- and abolish it forever through His work on the cross. Through Christ's sacrifice God reconciled Himself to both Jew and Gentile. Christ broke down the barrier and the Church was born. Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

He Commands the Morning

"Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, And caused the dawn to know its place," Job 38:12

In his distress, Job presumes to explain God's ways to his friends. There is much discourse that results and finally God interrupts to question Job, exposing his ignorance and that of his compadres. Job is humbled, as he should be. There is none like the Almighty God. His power is limitless. Even the dawn is subject to His command.

It's All Good

"God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:25

It pleased God to fill the earth with diverse animals. From livestock to forest creatures. From the largest elephant to the tiniest chipmunk. They all speak of the wonder of our God. What creativity He possesses. Consider the animals and praise Him for adding them to our world.

"I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'" Psalm 122:1

As a little girl, every Sunday I joined with the rest of the congregation in reciting Psalm 122:1. Those words opened the worship service of our little wood church in the country. They reminded me that there should be a feeling of gladness in gathering with other believers in worship. As an adult I often think of this verse on my way to church. The psalmist was glad to enter the house of the Lord. Am I? Are you?
