Those Who Wait, Will Fly

"Yet those who wait for the LORD
         Will gain new strength;
         They will mount up with wings like eagles,
         They will run and not get tired,
         They will walk and not become weary." Isaiah 40:31

In the midst of trials, it is hard to wait for the Lord's deliverance. We want so badly for the hardship to be over, and it is difficult to understand why God tarries. But He has promised to give strength to the weary and power to the weak, if they will only wait on Him. Isaiah tells us they will mount up with wings like those of the eagles.  You can be sure that the same God who created the powerful wings of the eagles and gave the raptors such an amazing wingspan with which to fly high above the earth, will come through on His promise to lift us up, too. Trust Him. Rely on Him. He is faithful.

When Our Spirit is Overwhelmed

"When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path" Psalm 142:3a

There may be times in our lives when our spirits are overwhelmed. In fact, live long enough and it's almost guaranteed we will face such times. The loss of a spouse, ill health, a prodigal child, corporate downsizing. So many twists and turns on our journey. Yet, we are not alone. Our gracious Heavenly Father is with us. He knows right where we are and what lies ahead. None of it is a surprise to Him. The very thing that threatens to undo us is an opportunity  to see His mighty power in action. As He works through our difficulty we can proclaim, "Father, 'you knew my path'". To God be the glory!

Worry Is a Robber

"Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?"
Matthew 6:26-27

It is the nature of most of us to worry. Worry about having enough money. Worry about our health. Worry about...well, you name it. But worry doesn't fix anything. Worry is a robber. It robs us of our peace, our sleep, and eventually our health. Jesus understands this and reminds us that the same God who sees that even the birds have enough to eat, will certainly meet the needs of His children, who are of great worth to Him. The next time you start to worry, think of these verses and remember that the God who loves you will provide.

See The Light

"But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
         That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
The way of the wicked is like darkness;
         They do not know over what they stumble. "
Proverbs 4:18-19

Just as the morning light grows in intensity as the day progresses, so purity in the Christian's life increases the longer he walks with the Lord. The light of Christ illumines his way and he becomes more and more aware of sin in his life. Not so the unbeliever. He walks in spiritual darkness without understanding the gravity of his situation. And so he falls farther and farther into sin, not even realizing it as such.

Delight in His Works

"Great are the works of the LORD;
       they are studied by all who delight in them." Psalm 111:2

As an artist's wife, I have seen stunning work by the hand of my husband, as well as other talented painters. They study creation and translate what they discover onto canvas in beautiful shapes and hues. But none can compare to the work of the Creator Himself. His work is matchless. It is for His glory, and He is pleased when we stop and take notice. Don't miss a chance to study and delight in it.

He Changes the Seasons

"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
       wisdom and power are his.
 He changes times and seasons;" Daniel 2:20-21a

All the earth is under God's control. The seasons change because He wills it. Yes, they are under the laws of nature, but God put those laws in place and He can change them if He so desires. What an awesome God we serve!

The Harvest is Coming

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9

The farmer patiently works in his field, even when he is tired, and is rewarded with a crop to reap. As we set our hearts to serve God, to live our lives according to His word, there will be times when we become weary. During those times it is good to remember this scripture and refuse to give up. Be of good cheer. The harvest is coming.
