"It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery."
Galatians 5:1
Here in the Colorado Rockies the deer roam freely. Yesterday I watched several of them prance across a field and wondered if they are cognizant of their freedom. Probably not, as it's unlikely any of them have ever been caged. As a Christian, I am very much aware that Christ has set me free from the caged life of religion, which is a "yoke of slavery". Religion tells us to work our way to God; an impossible task that only leads to bondage. Christ tells us to come to Him and experience the liberty of grace. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. When we receive Christ as our Savior, religion stops and a relationship begins. We don't deserve it, but God says it's ours when we stop trying to gain His approval by what we do, and trust Christ's sacrifice on the cross to do it for us.
You are so right. God wants to have a relationship with us. We keep trying to earn our salvation and it's a gift. He knew we couldn't do it on our own and loved us so much that He made a way and that way was Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteRight on, Sue. This is the "good news" of the gospel and what sets Christianity apart from every other major religion. In all other religions salvation depends on man working his way to God, but in Christianity God came down to man in the person of Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12: "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
