Open Our Eyes

They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”
Matthew 20:33

Two blind men call out to Jesus for healing. They are societal outcasts. Marginalized. Despised perhaps. They hear that Jesus is coming and they cry out to Him. He asks what He can do for them and they tell Him what they want. They want their "eyes to be opened." Jesus responds with compassion and gives them sight. He opens their eyes so they can see and they respond by immediately following Him. Jesus opens up the eyes of the spiritually blind, too. When we come to Him in our broken state, longing to come out of the darkness, He compassionately receives us and opens our eyes to the light of new life in Him. We follow Him because, frankly, where else would we go? There is no one who loves us more.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me . . .
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
